High-Profil Environmental Networks Send Message Regarding Climate and Energy Objectives to the European Council
March 18, 2014
The CARE-North plus project partner ICLEI was one of several high-profile environmental and governmental networks to sign and support a joint open letter to the European Council. The message issued a request that the European Council send an encouraging signal to citizens, investors, communities and local and regional authorities in order to bolster the European Union’s climate ambitions. Among the other signatories were the Climate Alliance, Energy Cities, Fedarene, Eurocities and CEMR (Council of European Municipalities and Regions).
A focus of the message is the need for ambitious greenhouse gas reduction strategies and goals in the 2030 framework and the potential that lies within cities, town and regions to assist in reaching the EU’s climate and energy objectives as urban areas are responsible for 80% of global energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
The open letter to the European Council is available for download below.
