High voltage on the road - testdrive of new full electric EURABUS in Bremen

July 22, 2014

Today, the Bremen transport operator, the Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG), presented a new, full battery electric 12 metre bus for a test drive. The bus will operate for three months on an existing bus line, through which the BSAG will learn about the advantages and disadvantages the particular model exhibits.

This year’s „European Sustainable Energy Award" in the category ‘travelling’ goes to Bremen – honouring the activities in the field of Car-Sharing. Dr. Joachim Lohse, Senator for Environment, Urban Development and Transport and Kerstin Homrighausen, Business Director of the Car-Sharing operator cambio Bremen received the award in the ceremony which was opened by Commissioner Günther Oettinger. He emphasized in his opening speech: “Energy efficiency is not a luxury, energy efficiency is a necessity for the future”.

Aberdeen primary school pupil wins CARE-North sustainable transport of the future competition

Two Professors from Robert Gordon University (RGU) today (Friday, 7 September) announced the winners of their sustainable transport of the future poster competition. Overall winner, Zoe Fong (7), who is in primary three at Hanover Street Primary School in Aberdeen impressed judges with her ideas about how we could change the way we travel in the future.

Too early? Brave people proclaimed: We are tough guys!

21 brave men and women met on Tuesday (19th June 2012) morning at the Bremerhaven main station to testify belonging to the tough guys! This was one of the study tours of the Joint Annual Conference 18-20 June 2012, Bremerhaven

CARE-North Project in Malmo saves money and helps the environment

Cars talking to the driver helps employees of the City of Malmö to maintain the speed limit, thereby saving the environment. The result of the project shows fuel savings of 17%.

Electric Mobility and Public Transport

The current discussion about electric mobility mostly covers individual car ownage and usage.

Electric driven trains and trams do exist for more than 100 years in Germany.

The goal of the German master plan electric mobility is to have at least one million electric driven vehicles on the streets by 2020. Neighboring EU countries also invest in electric mobility, as well this is an important aspect of the CARE-North partner exchange on expericence.

This movie (only available in German, sorry!) shows how already by today the implementation of intelligent, integrated transport schemes, it is possible to reduce congestion, air pollution and used space for traffic - by providing smart travel solutions to existing public transport offers, eg. Car-sharing.

As Bremen is a showcase for Car-Sharing (see also for more information on Bremen Car-Sharing presentation on Shanghai EXPO2010 last year), Michael Glotz-Richter was interviewed for this short movie as well!

Successful kick-off event - Bremen Senator starts pedelec project

What a perfect day for a cycle project kick-off.

On May 10th Reinhard Loske, Senator for Environment, Transport, Construction and European Affairs in Bremen, officially started our pedelec test-drive project "Testfahren mit Rückenwind".

Mitigating transport emission - an easy task?

  • GHG inventories – with special regard to calculating transport emissions
  • A regional input/output modeling approach including:
    • Climate Protection for Regions (Specialties e.g. steelworks)
    • Maritime Traffic
    • Private Transport (person/year)
    • Commercial Transport (employer / € revenue)
    • Air Transport
Partners within from different work packages joined for this CARE-North cross-wp-debate in Bremen.
As this is a complex task, the CARE-North project is collaborating with external experts such as the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy and ICLEI.
